A personal trainer's income from outside the session
Passive income for a personal trainer means money that arrives without another hour on the gym floor, and most of the usual options ask for more hours than they save. The TriageFit affiliate programme pays 10% of every payment a client you refer makes, for as long as they stay subscribed, while TriageFit does the coaching.

A personal trainer's income is tied to the hours they can spend on a gym floor, and a week only holds so many of those. Passive income for personal trainers means money that keeps arriving without another session in the diary, and the usual options differ a lot in how passive they turn out to be once you are running them.
The income a trainer can earn outside sessions
Most trainers who add a second income pick from a short list, and each one sits somewhere between a second job and money that genuinely arrives while you sleep.
- Online coaching of your own. It pays well per client and reaches people outside your gym, and it is still your hours, spent writing programmes, reading check-ins and answering messages, with software and payment fees to cover every month.
- Group and small-group sessions. More clients in each hour raises what an hour earns, and every one of those hours is still spent on the floor.
- Programmes and ebooks. Written once and sold many times, although each sale is a one-off, so the income rises and falls with how often you promote it.
- Product affiliate links. A share of what clients spend on kit or supplements through your link, usually paid once per order.
- Recurring referral commission. A share of every payment a client you refer makes to a subscription service, for as long as they stay with it.
What makes an income stream passive
The test is what a month earns when you do nothing new in it. A programme sold last spring earns nothing this month unless somebody else buys it. Online clients expect their check-ins read whatever else is going on in your week. A recurring commission keeps paying for every person still subscribed, because the service carries the ongoing work of coaching them, and your part was the recommendation.
That is why referral commission sits at the passive end of the list. It asks for a conversation with the right client at the right time, and after that, each month they keep training is a month you are paid for without a session, a message or a programme to write.
The clients a referral suits
Every trainer meets people they cannot take on or cannot keep. There is the enquiry you turn away because your diary is full, the client moving to another city, the one who trains at five in the morning when you are asleep, and the person who wants coaching but cannot fit one-to-one sessions into their budget every week. Referring clients when you are fully booked covers the waiting-list case in more detail.
Pointing those people to coaching they can afford keeps them training, keeps your name attached to the result, and pays you every month they stay.
What the programme pays
The TriageFit affiliate programme pays 10% of every invoice a referred client pays, for the lifetime of their subscription, at the same rate for every affiliate. It is calculated on what the client actually pays, with no deduction for tax or processing fees.
A client on the block plan pays every 4 weeks, so each payment earns you €5 and a full year of 13 payments earns you €65. A client on the annual plan earns you €50 for each year they renew. A referral is credited when the person signs up within 60 days of clicking your link and then pays, and every payment after that first one credits you too, whichever plan they switch to. A refund or chargeback reverses the commission on that payment.
Commissions are held for 30 days before they become payable, and Stripe Connect pays you each month, automatically, once your payable balance reaches €20. You never raise an invoice, and the tax on what you earn is yours to manage, as it is on your session income. The calculator on the affiliate page adds up a year for any number of clients.
What your clients get
A client you refer joins the same membership as everyone else, at the listed price of €50 every 4 weeks or €500 a year, VAT included, with one plan and no tiers. Their programme is built from an intake of about thirty minutes that records their training history and old injuries, and an old injury shapes the programme from the first session, with the exercises that aggravate it left out.
Training runs in phases our coaches designed, food targets are matched to their metabolism and adjust each week, and a weekly check-in rebuilds the next week around how the last one went. A real coach reads each check-in, coaches review the form-check videos members send, and the AI coach answers questions at any hour, so the client is coached every week without you having to find the time.
Telling clients about it
Tell a client plainly that you earn a commission if they join, and say it at the same moment as the recommendation. The affiliate terms ask this of anyone promoting to their own clients, and a recommendation made openly keeps the trust your sessions built.
Your toolkit gives you tagged links and a QR code, so a card on the gym noticeboard, a line in your email signature and a post on your own page each count separately on your dashboard. It also has ready-made copy for a longer post or newsletter, and three guides to hand out, including a 4-Week Strength Primer, which give a client something to keep whether or not they join.
Earning from trainers you bring in
If you know other trainers, the dashboard's invite link brings them into the programme as part of your team. You then earn 5% on the member referrals they make, paid on top of their own 10% and never taken from it. The same referral link also earns when a company or a clinic you introduce signs up, which earning from introducing companies and clinics explains.
How to join
Apply on the affiliate page with your name and email, and, if you want, where you will share your link and how many people you reach. No TriageFit account is needed. We email you a sign-in link to your dashboard, where your referral link is ready to use, and connecting Stripe from the dashboard is what lets us pay you. Fitness affiliate programmes compares this programme with the others open to trainers and creators.
Questions people ask
- Is referral commission really passive for a personal trainer?
- Once a client has joined, largely yes. The programme, the weekly check-ins and the changes to the plan are TriageFit's job, and your commission arrives with each payment the client makes. Your part is the recommendation itself and the honest conversation that goes with it, including telling the client you earn from it.
- How much does a trainer earn from one referred client?
- On the block plan each payment earns you €5, which comes to €65 over a year of 13 payments. A client on the annual plan earns you €50 each year they renew. The commission lasts as long as their subscription does.
- Who can join the affiliate programme?
- Anyone aged 18 or over who can enter a contract and lives in a region Stripe Connect supports. Trainers, coaches, gym owners and creators all apply through the same short form, earn the same 10% and get the same dashboard, and none of them needs a TriageFit account to do it.
- Do my clients pay more if I refer them?
- They pay the listed price, €50 every 4 weeks or €500 a year with VAT included, exactly what they would pay joining on their own. Your commission is paid by TriageFit from what it earns, so referring a client costs them nothing extra.
