Selling your own coaching or earning as an affiliate

Affiliate marketing and your own online coaching pay in very different ways: coaching earns more from each person and costs you hours for every one, while affiliate marketing earns less per person and asks for almost none. Many fitness professionals run both, and the TriageFit affiliate programme pays 10% of every payment a referral makes for as long as they stay subscribed.

For a trainer or creator weighing affiliate marketing against building their own online coaching, the choice usually looks more final than it is. Both turn the trust of an audience into income. They differ in how much each person is worth to you, how many hours each person costs, what you have to set up before the first payment and what happens to the income when you step away. Set side by side on those points, the question often becomes how much of each to do rather than which one.

What running your own coaching involves

Selling your own coaching means being the product. Every client needs a programme that fits them, check-ins read and answered, messages replied to and changes made when their week goes wrong. Around that sits the business: software to deliver the programmes, a way to take payments and handle refunds, terms and privacy notices, insurance, tax and the marketing that brings the next client in. The reward is that each client pays you your full fee, and a coaching business you run yourself is entirely yours to shape. The cost of running an online coaching business goes through the overheads in detail.

What affiliate marketing involves

As an affiliate you recommend something someone else delivers, and you are paid a share of what the people you send spend. There is no programme to write and no check-in to answer, and the setup is usually an application and a link. The trade is control: you do not set the price, shape the service or decide how the people you send are looked after, so your reputation rests on choosing something good. Commission structures vary widely, from a single payment per sale to a share of every payment for the life of a subscription.

Where the income differs

Per person, your own coaching wins easily, since a client paying your full fee is worth many times a commission on someone else's price. The difference is in what each person costs you. A coaching client takes hours from your week for as long as they stay, so your income tops out when your diary does. A referral takes a few minutes of your time once, so the number you can have is limited by your audience rather than your hours. High-ticket coaching against recurring commission looks at the same trade at the premium end.

The two also behave differently when you stop. Take a month away from your own coaching and the clients need someone else to coach them. Take a month away from a recurring affiliate programme and the people you referred are still coached, and every payment they make still earns you commission.

Running both

Plenty of coaches do both, and the combination fits together neatly. You keep coaching the clients who want you in particular and can pay your fee, and you refer the enquiries you cannot or would rather not take: people whose budget does not stretch to one-to-one coaching, people who need to start before you have space, and people who want a structured service more than a personal relationship. The TriageFit programme terms cover this case: a coach who promotes TriageFit to their own clients is asked to tell them plainly that they earn a commission when they join. Referring clients when you are fully booked covers that situation in detail.

What the TriageFit programme pays

TriageFit pays 10% of every paid invoice from each person you refer, for the lifetime of their subscription, and the rate is identical for every affiliate. It is calculated on the full amount the member pays, and a refund or chargeback reverses the commission on that payment. On the block plan, where members pay every 4 weeks, each payment earns you €5 and a full year €65. On the annual plan each renewal earns you €50.

Referrals are credited on the last link clicked, if the person signs up within 60 days and then pays. Commissions are held 30 days, then Stripe Connect pays them out monthly once your payable balance reaches €20.

What the people you refer get

The person you send is coached, not handed a template. Their programme is built from an intake about their goals, training history, injuries and equipment, in phases our coaches designed, and their food targets are matched to their metabolism and adjust each week. A weekly check-in rebuilds the next week, and a real coach reads it as well. The AI coach answers at any hour and proposes changes for them to confirm, and coaches review their form-check videos. It costs them €50 every 4 weeks or €500 a year, VAT included, the same as joining directly.

Which one suits you

If you love coaching people one to one and have the hours for it, your own coaching will earn more from each person, and a referral link is a way to help the people who do not fit. If you would rather make content than coach, or your audience is larger than any diary could hold, affiliate marketing lets you earn from it without taking on the coaching. Most people who do this for long end up with some of each.

How to join

Apply on the affiliate page with your name and email, and you do not need a TriageFit account. Your referral link is waiting in the dashboard once you follow the sign-in email, and you connect Stripe to be paid. Fitness affiliate programmes compares the programmes open to trainers and creators.

Questions people ask

Is affiliate marketing easier than running online coaching?
It takes far fewer hours, since the company you refer to does the coaching. It also earns less per person and gives you no control over the service, so it depends on choosing something you would recommend without the commission. Many coaches find the two work best together.
Can I coach my own clients and be a TriageFit affiliate?
Yes. The programme terms cover coaches promoting TriageFit to their own clients, and ask them to say plainly that they earn a commission when a client joins. Many coaches refer the enquiries they cannot take on and keep coaching the clients who want them in particular.
Who coaches the people I refer?
TriageFit does. Each person gets a programme built from their own intake in phases our coaches designed, food targets that adjust each week, and a weekly check-in a real coach reads. The AI coach answers at any hour, and coaches review the form-check videos they send.
Does the commission stop if I stop posting?
No. Your commission follows the payments of the people you referred, not your activity, so it continues for as long as their subscriptions do. It stops for a given person when their subscription ends, and a refunded or charged-back payment reverses the commission it earned.
