Cancelling a Whoop membership, and taking your data with you

You cancel a Whoop membership in a web browser at app.whoop.com, and the way you pay decides the day it ends. After that Whoop collects no new data, and the readings it already holds stay viewable in your account. TriageFit imports those readings from an uploaded export, going back as far as you choose, and uses them in coaching your training and recovery, with a real coach reading every weekly check-in. It costs €50 / 4 weeks.

Cancelling a Whoop membership is done online, and three things are worth settling before you do it: the date the membership ends, whether a pause would suit you better, and what happens to the readings you have built up. Every Whoop term on this page comes from Whoop's own help centre and privacy policy.

Where to cancel a Whoop membership

Whoop's help centre sends you to the Membership section of app.whoop.com in a web browser, where the cancel option sits at the bottom of the page, with no need to contact support. It also says that the device has to be delivered and activated before a membership can be cancelled, and that a paused membership has to be resumed before it can be cancelled.

If the readings matter to you, request your Whoop export before you cancel. The export comes as a zip archive, linked from an email Whoop sends you, and asking for it while the membership is active puts the readings in a file you keep, whatever you decide next.

The date the membership ends

How you pay decides the date. Whoop's help centre says a year paid up front is cancelled for the end of the commitment. If you pay monthly, it says a cancellation inside the 12-month commitment means either paying off the months left or scheduling it for the end of the commitment, and once the commitment is over, a cancellation has to go in before the next billing date.

A membership left alone renews automatically at the same yearly rate unless it is cancelled before the next billing cycle, so the date worth putting in your calendar is the end of your commitment. Memberships are sold on a 12-month commitment, with a 24-month option for new members, and what Whoop costs lists the yearly price of each one in Ireland, the UK and the US.

Cancelling in the first month, or at the end of a trial

The first weeks have a refund route of their own, as Whoop gives a full refund, less shipping, when the membership is cancelled and the device returned within 30 days of arriving.

A free trial runs to its own clock. To cancel one, the return has to start before the trial ends, with the device and charger both sent back, and Whoop lists a $110 fee, in US dollars, for hardware that is not returned. The help centre also says the trial turns into a 12-month Peak membership when it ends, unless it is cancelled.

Pausing a Whoop membership

If the reason for leaving is a few months away from training, a pause may suit you better. Whoop's help centre describes a pause of up to three months, for an active membership outside a commitment period that has not been paused in the last 12 months. It brings no billing and no data uploads while it lasts, and a resume at any time. On your return, resuming within 90 days keeps the data and needs no recalibration, while after 90 days the baselines start again.

That condition takes a pause off the table while a commitment is still running.

What happens to your Whoop data

Whoop's help centre says that after cancelling, the membership runs to the last day of the commitment, and after that no new data is collected or analysed, while past data stays viewable. Its privacy policy also gives you the right to a copy of personal data in a machine-readable format, which you request through the Data Management feature on privacy.whoop.com, or an email to its privacy team.

TriageFit reads the export from your Whoop account, which holds your recovery, strain and sleep. The import page names the file to take from the zip, and when you upload it you choose how far back to go, from the last 90 days to everything in the file.

Coaching after Whoop

TriageFit coaches from what you tell it at the start, the sessions you log and a check-in every week, and a device adds its readings whenever you upload. The intake takes around thirty minutes and can be finished later, and your answers shape both the programme, planned in phases of four to six weeks that our coaches laid out, and a calorie target set to match your metabolism.

From Whoop, an upload carries recovery score and strain alongside sleep, resting heart rate and heart-rate variability. Until the membership ends, each new export brings the newest readings in. After that, the coaching carries on from your logs and the five ratings in your check-in, for energy, recovery, motivation, sleep and stress, and every check-in still reaches a real coach.

If you move to another device, Apple, Garmin, Oura and Fitbit exports upload the same way. Heart-rate variability from the new device starts a baseline of its own, since each maker calculates it in its own way, so a reading from the new watch or ring is only ever set against earlier readings from the same one. Daily readiness comes from heart-rate variability and resting heart rate, and the effort your sessions call for rises and falls with your recovery.

A civil engineer whose commitment ends in March

A civil engineer in Limerick has worn a Whoop for two years and paid for each year up front, with the current commitment ending in March. In January they decide the money for another year will go on coaching, and they cancel, so the membership runs on until March. They request the export that week, join TriageFit and upload the whole file.

Their programme gives them three evenings in the gym and an easy run on Saturday mornings. When a site inspection takes a Thursday evening, the AI coach offers to move that session to Friday morning, and it moves when they accept. They upload a fresh export at the start of February and again at the start of March.

In April Whoop stops collecting new data, and the check-ins carry on as before, with their sessions already listed and the ratings added in a few minutes. In June they buy a Garmin watch and upload its first export, which starts a fresh baseline for that watch.

What it costs

A TriageFit plan is €50 every 4 weeks or €500 a year, with VAT included, and importing from Whoop or any other supported device adds nothing to that. The block plan has no contract, and in the app you can cancel it yourself whenever you want or pause it for one to three months.

Whoop alternatives compares the trackers people move to when they leave Whoop.

How to start

Choose a plan on the pricing page, create your account and pay, and the intake opens. In the app, the import page lists the steps for a Whoop export, and the file can go up the day Whoop's email arrives. Coaching from wearable data shows what each device's readings are used for, and online fitness coaching follows the coaching through a whole week.
